Uechi Ryu Karate-Do Events and News in Europe and the world - Seminars, Tournaments Karate - Traditional Martial Arts

Summer seminar will be organized on Saturday 7th of June by Shogun Martial Arts School in Kent, UK. The seminar will be led by Sensei Terry Daly (Renshi 6th Dan), Sensei Lee Adams (Shihan 5th Dan Uechi Ryu, 3rd Dan Tomiki Aikido) and Sensei Dean Lowe Uechi-Ryu G.B. Training starts at 12 noon until 6 P.M. and the participation cost is £20.

Course content

• Kata Bunkai ,Competition Kumite workshop
• Tai Sabaki – avoidance and why it’s important
• Un Soku and tanduko undo – foot movement and hand/foot movement
• Understanding kuzushi
• Application of the above in Daiiti Yakosoku Kumite ( or your own association kumite exercise)
• Use of locks and takedowns and how to make them more effective

There is also one great seminar on 6th September and is a Kumite Workshop with Dr Wayne Otto O.B.E. Godan Uechi Ryu. More info on this seminar, poster and participation fees will be posted on a new article soon.

Summer Seminar 2015 – Sensei George E Mattson UK Visit June 27, 2015 - June 28, 2015

Sensei Lee Adams' message:

We are very honoured to have Sensei George E Mattson visit the UK for our event. George was originaly taught by Ryuko Tomoyose as a young American serviceman for several hours in the evening after his duties on the military base in Okinawa only training occasionally at the Uechi-Ryu Karate-Do headquarters by Kanei Uechi and his other Master students. He was promoted to 1st degree black belt before leaving Okinawa at the end of his service in the military. Ryuko Tomoyose had studied previously with the founders of the other two major Okinawan Karate styles before starting lessons with Kanei Uechi finally. A few months before becoming too ill, Kanbun Uechi returned to Okinawa and taught at his son’s karate school in Nago, Okinawa, Japan. During that time, Ryuko Tomoyose studied with Kanbun Uechi and his students there. Ryuko Tomoyose therefore has the distinction of being one of the very few that was a student of all three founders of all three of the major styles of Okinawan Karate, Kanbun Uechi, Chojun Miyagi, and Chosin Chibana.

George E. Mattson returned to Okinawa many times and arranged to travel with his students to Okinawa often. Through his continued travel to Okinawa and the seminars sponsored for Okinawan masters to travel to the USA George E. Mattson has been studying under the majority of Uechi-Ryu Karate-Do masters of the 20th century. As a result, he has been among the first to be promoted to each degree of black belt up to his current rank of 10th degree black belt in Uechi-Ryu Karate-Do in the USA. Sensei Fulvio Zilioli and Okikukai Italy will participate to the upcoming FESTIVAL DELL'ORIENTE (Orient Festival) and WTKA's Unified World Championships this November. The event will take place in Tuscany, Italy between the 31st of October and 3rd of November. Sensei Zilioli will offer a free Uechi Ryu seminar. All martial arts and combat sports athletes have always dreamed to take part, at least once in their life, to a true World Championship, an event that was not the expression of a single federation, but the vast majority of existing .

This dream is now reality thanks to WTKA that has succeeded in unifying 38 World Federations and sixty per cent of the whole movement !!!!!!!!

Where others had failed due to selfishness, greed, short-sightedness and lack of planning, WTKA, it right to be said, has achieved a little great sports miracle.

The one of Carrara therefore, it is worth repeating, is no longer the World Championship of an unique federation as it always has been until now, but the overwhelming totality of existing !!!!!!!

It ‘a masterpiece of foresight, generosity and friendship.

On 30th and 31st October 1st and 2nd of November it will be, therefore, an event which will enter in the history of martial arts, with the organization of the biggest tournament in the world, where will participate 120 countries and 10,000 athletes !!!

The open seminar held by Sensei Thomas Podzelny and his dojo (Ki-Shin-Tai Dojo) completed successfully. Trainings were led by  Katsuji Tamayose Sensei (9th Dan) and Kazuya Takara Sensei (7th Dan) from Okinawa and took place in Erlangen/Germany Oct. 2~5, 2014 (previous article here). Masters stayed in Germany from Sep. 27 to Oct. 6, accompanied by Takara Sensei's wife Fujiko san and her sister Chieko Okawa san. The seminar coincided with the 15th anniversary of Ki-Shin-Tai Dojo and various beautiful activities took place during the whole period. Dan grading was also held, during which Sensei Thomas Podzelny was successfully promoted to 5th Dan Uechi-Ryu Karate and one of his students, Markus Wedel, who  started teaching his own karate group in June was accepted as official branch dojo. Uechiryu.eu congratulates Sensei Podzelny for this great event and his new promotion.
