Karate will very soon have its new house in Okinawa, the birthplace of Karate. In 2016 Okinawa Prefectural Government will open the doors of the new Okinawa Karate Kaikan. Local authorities with this facility aim to serve towards preserving and exposing Karate's role in Okinawan culture and educate the world in Karate's birthplace. This outstanding site of 3.8hectare will consist of three main buildings: 1) the Karate Dojo, 2) the Karate Museum and 3) the Oku-no-in (indoor stadium).

karate1 okinawa2015karate1 okinawa 2015Katate1 Premier League is organized for one more year in the birthplace of Karate, Okinawa this November. The Tournament will take place in Okinawa Prefectural Budokan 28th and 29th of November. The organizing part of the tournament is undertaken by the JKF.

In WKF's bulletin we read this introduction:
"The Karate1 WKF Premier League is the prime league event in the world of Karate. Together with the WKF Karate1 World Cup (WWC) it is a series of world class Karate competitions recognized and supported by the World Karate Federation Its aim is to bring together the best Karate competitors in the world in a series of open championships of unprecedented scale and quality."

A traditional Okinawa Karate and Kobudo special seminar will be also held along with the tourmanent on the 30th of November. The seminar will offer participants an opportunity to learn, in the birthplace of karate, the essence of kata and skills of Okinawa karate beyond their ryu-ha. From Uechi-Ryu,  Sensei Tsutomu Nakahodo and Sensei Kyohide Shinjo will offer lessons on Seisan and Senseiryu kata.

The Okinawa Prefectural Government and the Okinawa Karate-do-Shinko-kai (The Society for the Advancement of Traditional Okinawa Karate) promoting traditional Okinawan Karate is a unique cultural asset of Okinawa that has been shared throughout the world, is sending four masters of Okinawan Karate-Do, representing Shorin-Ryu, Isshin-Ryu, Goju-Ryu, and Uechi-Ryu, to the United States to teach this seminar. This is a unique and exceptional opportunity, which brings the Okinawan Karate experience to America. Being able to train with four Okinawan Masters from four different styles at the same event outside of Okinawa is very rare.

The event will take place on November 8th, starting at 9:00 am in New Paltz, New York, at the New Paltz High School at 130 S. Putt Corners Rd, New Paltz, NY 12561.
Registration deadline is November 2nd while the seminar fee is $130, including six hours of training, lunch, and a Sayonara Party afterwards. Every practitioner with a heartfelt interest in Okinawan Karate should attend this extraordinary event.

  • Kyuna Choko Sensei, Hanshi 10Dan Okinawa Shorin-Ryu
  • Tsuyoshi Uechi Sensei, Kyoshi 8Dan Okinawa Isshin-Ryu
  • Masanari Kikugawa Sensei, Hanshi 10Dan Okinawa Goju-Ryu
  • Kazuya Takara Sensei, Okinawa Uechi-Ryu
